Purpose
The Institutefs purpose is to conduct engineering and technology research on ship engine/equipment and marine equipment, aiming through progress in these areas to contribute to the promotion of and science and technology and to the development of society.

  • Conduct training to foster engineers

    Awarded for outstanding papers, with no age limits; can also be awarded for jointly authored papers
  • Technology Award
    Awarded for outstanding papers, technical data, etc., with no age limits; can also be awarded for joint work
  • Encouragement Award
    Awarded for outstanding papers, technical data, etc., to individuals under 40 years of age as of December 31 of the year in question
  • Lloyd Register Manson Prize
    Awarded for outstanding papers, technical data, etc., published in JIMEfs journal or in English-language journals or presented in English between November of the previous year and October of the year in question in the publications, international conferences, etc., of cooperative academic groups overseas connected with marine engineering such as IMarEST
  • Lloyd Register Encouragement Prize
    Awarded to particularly outstanding individuals among those persons selected for encouragement prizes
  • CPD Encouragement Award
    Awarded to top-ranking parties (individuals) in the acquisition of CPD points (learning points and achievement points) for the year in question or the past three years
› Isamu Yamashita Prize (Outstanding Student Encouragement Prize)
  • Isamu Yamashita Award
    Awarded to outstanding students at universities, etc., closely associated with JIME who are engaged in graduation research connected with marine engineering.
› Distinguished Service Awards
  • Distinguished Service on a Permanent Committee
    Awarded to persons for particularly distinguished service on a permanent committee subordinate to the Board of Directors
  • Distinguished Service in ISME Management
    Awarded to persons who have rendered significant service in running ISME
  • Distinguished Service in Membership Growth
    Awarded to persons who have made particularly notable contributions to increasing JIMEfs membership
  • Distinguished Service in CPD Instruction Contribution Points
    Awarded to persons who have earned significant CPD instruction contribution points in institute activities

› Marine Engineering of the Year (Doko Memorial Prize) Award
The following companies, groups, persons, etc., are eligible for this award:
  • Ship owners, shipyards, and/or major equipment manufacturers that built or operated ships utilizing outstanding marine engineering technology
  • Persons, companies and/or groups that undertook development testing to yield practical applications for outstanding marine engineering technology
  • Persons, companies and/or groups that implemented systems relevant to outstanding marine engineering
  • Persons, companies and/or groups that have been producing outstanding research over many years results
